Your Opportunity: A Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family care on an acute care surgical unit in accordance with RAH and AHS policy and procedures PCU 24 is a 28-bed unit providing care to general surgery patients including Plastics, General Surgery, Bariatric and Oral Maxillary Facial patients that are received from the operating room, emergency department, intensive care units, and directly from home and/or medical clinics.

We have collaborative nursing care on all shifts with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and health care aides.

Unit orientation will be established based on experience.

RNs are expected to direct and monitor the care provided by health care aids and support their LPN peers.

RNs are expected to take on the responsibility of charge nurse as required.

This unit is a high-acuity inpatient care area and a high level of physical activity will be required by the incumbent.

Successful candidates will be expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives at the front line; supporting and maintaining high quality patient care strategies within the surgery program.

Description: As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being.

In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families.

You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.

You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Classification: Registered Nurse Union: United Nurses of Alberta Department: PCU 24 Plastics & General Surg Primary Location: Royal Alexandra Hospital Multi-Site: At (UNA only) FTE: 0.54 Posting End Date: 22-JAN-2021 Temporary Employee Class: Temp P/T Benefits Date Available: 01-FEB-2021 Temporary End Date: 17-JAN-2022 Hours per Shift: 7.75 Length of Shift in weeks: 12 Shifts per cycle: 31 Shift Pattern: Days, Evenings, Weekends Days Off: As Per Rotation Minimum Salary: $36.86 Maximum Salary: $48.37 Vehicle Requirement: Not Applicable Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited nursing education program.

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support
– Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications: Candidates are required to write a medication calculation exam on interview.

Failure to achieve a passing mark on the exam may impact decision to hire.

Capable of working in a fast paced physically demanding environment with patients of varying and limited mobility requiring assistance.

Proven reliability and dependability required.

Confident with electronic platforms for documentation and access to information
– computer literacy required.

Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills required.

Two years previous general surgical experience required.

Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and priority setting skills required.

Able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Charge nurse experience preferred.

IV, PCA, epidural, Central Line and TPN experience preferred.
