BURNCO is looking to hire a Quality Assurance Technician based out of our Edmonton Aggregate Division. Reporting to the Quality Control Supervisor, the Quality Assurance Technician will collect, test and compare daily aggregate production samples to industry standards, while preparing a test report with the gradation results of the samples and the appropriate specification comparisons. The successful candidate is an individual that can engage collaboratively with the supervisor and Plant Foreman to achieve deliverables while also being a proactive team player that can drive and support change and champion improvements that keep our delivered products and services the best in the industry.

Reality Of The Job

  • You’ll be getting down and dirty from time-to-time, wearing coveralls as you work on company sites
  • You will learn a lot and find yourself very busy, even in our labs
  • You’ll be on a small team so commitment, a determined attitude and a friendly demeanor will be in the spotlight constantly
  • Must be willing to work overtime and on varying shifts (including nights and weekends), as required
  • Must be willing to work out of town

What You Will Be Doing

  • Collection of production samples
  • Complete required aggregate testing (moisture content, sieve analysis, percent fractured, organic impurities)
  • Complete and submit reports to operations and QA personnel
  • Perform inspections of testing materials and equipment
  • Document and analyze test results, site activities, deficiencies, and reporting
  • Report product deficiencies to supervisor or delegate for immediate action
  • Enter test data into data management system
  • Perform stockpile inspections
  • Participate in safety meetings
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment and follow all BURNCO safety procedures
  • Other duties assigned by the Quality Assurance Supervisor

Requirements

What We Would Like From You

Education & Experience

  • A high school diploma is required
  • Candidates who have or are working towards a C.E.T designation will be given preference
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract

Skills

  • Intermediate computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail as well as strong organization skills are needed
  • Ability to perform analytical and math functions and demonstrate understanding of test measurements
  • Must have strong eyesight and colour vision, spatial awareness/depth perception
  • Good stress management skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment by following instructions with minimal supervision

We Would Prefer From You

  • Previous aggregate testing experience would be considered an asset
  • A track record of experience and/or familiarity within this area of the construction industry
