(CAN) Manager, Promo Pricing

This is a Contract position in Fort Saskatchewan, AB posted April 10, 2021.

Position Summary Reporting to the Sr.

Manager, Pricing Strategy and Product, this role is responsible to provide decision support to the merchants with promotion strategy and analytics that help in end to end promotional planning.

The role will also support promotional tools and systems used for promotions and provide ad-hoc analyses when required.

This role is a unique blend of business expertise and data science capabilities to provide the support necessary for merchants.

What you’ll do 1.

Develop insights by leveraging the promotional metrics available in the data related to promotions.

These insights are a means to achieving WM’s EDLP goal (reduce ineffective promotions) and plan effective promotions.

The insights will be based on the ROI generated by the promotions based on the aligned framework.

Support merchant with coming up with promo strategy and guardrails to best optimize the promotion and EDLP.

Conduct end-to-end analysis starting from data pulls from big data systems to understanding/debugging AI/ML based algorithms to influence the merchants to take the right decisions, which is aligned the organizational promo strategy.

Be proficient at SQL, Teradata, data-lake, R, Python and continuously learn new tech and data-science tools and technology to effectively satisfy merchant needs.

This also includes working hands on to make enhancements to the reporting dashboards and toolkits available to support the merchants.

Design and govern business processes that will optimize weekly/quarterly/yearly operations providing decision support to the merchants.

Provide support to the merchants by conducting ad-hoc analyses on promotions.

Collect different data sources and prepare deliverables (PowerPoint, Excel reports) to be presented to Merchandising teams with decision support capabilities.

Embedded into the Merchant matrix team to provide support on new initiatives within merchant organization, initially for the Promo effectiveness measurement project, and ongoing for all promo strategy, compliance, promotional mechanics, and price communication change within the organization Should connect the dots between the merchants, tech and data science.

Provide inputs to the development teams on recommendations to improve the model etc.

Act as Subject Matter Expert for Promo framework and tools.

Be the point-of-contact to merchants and conduct UATs for Product release cycles and provide support to the Product Owner as necessary.

Provide feedback on product roadmap, feature backlog and deployment of systems.

Be comfortable with the agile product implementation methodology to continuously build subject matter expertise.

Provide inputs and contribute to the development of the promo effectiveness framework, which is used to measure the effectiveness of the promotions run by merchants.

The framework will include a top-line and bottom-line view of the performance and will consider impact on merchant portfolio and total company.

Contribute to promo optimization model, which guides the teams to plan the optimal promotions for the total company.

Partner with Marketing/Customer Insights to gather data and build consensus on approach to supporting merchants with the tools.

Attend flyer/promo planning meetings to provide inputs on effective promotions as well as optimal space allocation in the yearly/quarterly/weekly promo planning meetings.

Maintain a pulse on industry standards and contribute to continuous improvement of tools and systems to maintain market-leading position on providing value to customers through the optimal promotional strategy.

Skills and Knowledge Required Tech & Data-Science Qualifications
• Advanced expertise in Microsoft Suite (Excel including VBA, PowerPoint, Access, etc.)
• Advanced expertise with manipulating big data sets quickly and efficiently using one or more of the following: SQL, Oracle, Hive/HUE
• Advanced expertise with data transformations using Alteryx / Visual Studio SSIS
• Advanced expertise in one or more programming languages (e.g.

Python, R, Scala, etc.)
• Advanced expertise in statistical modelling including descriptive / basic and probability, predictive models, Machine learning and AI based algorithm
• Experience designing and building in data visualization such as Power BI or Tableau
• Experience in Omniture marketing and web analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Adobe Analytics
• Experience in POS data, transaction data, competition data, market data etc.

Required Leadership Qualifications
• Excellent communication skills, such as verbal, written and ability to present complex ideas in a simple and concise manner.

• Ability to influence leadership and key stakeholders using business cases and data insights
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities including people development / coaching and objective setting and evaluation
• Detail oriented and ability to adapt to a quickly changing, fast-paced environment
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently with tight deadlines Required Strategy, Consulting and End-to-End Implementation Qualifications
• Minimum education required: Post-Secondary Education In Business / Science / Engineering or related field, MBA an asset
• Minimum 3-5 years of increasing responsibility in pricing strategy and implementation, data science and advanced analytics as well as stakeholder engagement
